GET READY FOR THE GLADSTONE’S 3-DAY ART EVENT

Story by Odessa Paloma Parker

Looking to get in from the cold? The Gladstone Hotel opens its proverbial arms to the city, welcoming us for another year to Come Up To My Room(CUTMR). This is the ninth year for the “alternative design event”, which seeks to inspire through the re-imagining of the hotel’s rooms and common areas.

From January 27th to the 29th, you can visit The Gladstone and glimpse into the captured creativity of the featured participants who include Fugitive Glue, Wendy W Fok and WE-3. 11 room installations and 13 public space projects await you, each telling a compelling story about the artist’s frame of mind.

CUTMR, an official part of Toronto Design Offsite, also offers “Design Talks” during the event, to highlight the ideas behind artistic expression. Join several of the participating designers for Let’s Talk: Disposability, from 11AM-1PM on Saturday the 28th. “Taken in its broadest, strictest, object-oriented or ephemeral sense, these talks explore disposable, ubiquitous objects and the reactionary repurposing of such objects, while also investigating abstracted notions of disposability.” – Sounds like an interesting way to spend a chilly Saturday, no?

And as if the promise of artful adventures isn’t enough, don’t miss the “Love Design Party” on the 28th, starting at 10PM in the hotel’s ballroom.
