ASSOULINE, the publisher of many drool-worthy coffee table tomes, recently released a book we Canucks can claim close to our heart.
Hudson’s Bay Company is a compendium of all things “The Bay”. Founded during the early days of the fur trade, and now boasting the hottest in-store designer boutique (The Room) in the country, the business has grown from heritage to globally grand.
We’ve come a long way, baby – and this nearly 300-page history of one our most successful companies illustrates all the trials and triumphs. Vanity Fair editor Graydon Carter’s foreward does a great job of impressing the importance of the HBC to our fashion identity as a nation.
With amazing archival photos to accompany the quirky alphabet-style presentation of the Hudson’s Bay history, it’s easy to see how some of our favourite designers – from Philip Sparks to Klaxon Howl’s Matt Robinson – have been influenced by the brand.
Hudson’s Bay Company is available at ASSOULINE boutiques worldwide and through www.assouline.com, as well as at book retailers across Canada.
