A DESIGNER’S ELEGANT RETURN TO THE SCENE

The fashion set was abuzz with anticipation at the intimate presentation for Mendonça’s show, set in the overly opulent Trump International Hotel and Tower. Wondering what kind of inspiration his hiatus from the industry would bring, we were treated to more ’70s glamour that runs so rampant this spring. Less gaudy disco and more worldly fabulous, the fabrics gleamed and the lines were clean; purple was the colour of choice against a glitzy offering of evening gowns, jumpsuits, highly stylized suits and outerwear.

The soundtrack of David Bowie was exceedingly appropriate, for one got the feeling the Mendonça woman was a little dangerous; just as Bowie had a sinister sneak about him during the late ’70s and early ’80s, so too did each model, hiding behind fabulous sunglasses and wide-brimmed hats. The perfect wardrobe for world-class espionage, perhaps?
