MAKEUP ARTIST BRINGS BRUSHES OVER TO THE WILD SIDE
Story by Robert Weir
Everyone knows you need the right tools to do a job well – but who says they have to be bland? Evgeny Loukianenkov is a Toronto-based makeup artist whose work has graced the covers of Harper’s Bazaar and Elle; he is also the creator of some of the most luxe brushes around. But how to carry such precious provisions? Loukianenkov’s ‘Kissette’ collection binds your bristles in fashion-forward soft cases, ideal for eye catching, easy transport.
“As a makeup artist with an art school background, I’ve always liked beautifully designed objects,” Loukianenkov says. “[Wondering how] to keep brushes both in style and in a practical carrier [is what] inspired me to design the Kissette. It opens like a shirt, keeps brushes clean, and is very easy to carry around, especially while traveling. Every Kissette is hand-made, and can be produced in any colour and texture, depending on a client’s preference.”
Our favourite style is the Birds Of Paradise ‘Vanity’ Kissette (pictured above), a wild mix of python and bright feathers that comes with or without seven of Loukianenkov’s brushes. And while the set is a definite splurge at $800 CDN, Loukianenkov sources only the best materials to produce his line. “Each brush is hand-crafted with a carefully bound base for a stronger hold, which prevents shedding, [and] all the handles are made of Ebony wood, which gives beautiful luster and a perfect, well-balanced and comfortable fit in the hand.” Everyone needs a little daily luxury, and the ‘Kissette’ Collection delivers in high doses.
