TWO END-OF-SUMMER TREATS TO KEEP YOU LOOKING FRESH INTO AUTUMN

Story by Rebecca Perrin

In June, Canadian girls feel rich with the number of summer days remaining. By the end of July, however, we know our days of little make-up and no-fuss hair are numbered. Stuck between the long and easy days of July and the cooler, back-to-school days of September lies the month of August. What’s a girl to do with August? In my opinion, this is the perfect month to rejuvenate. You can take some time to repair the damage you’ve done during the summer months, and prepare for the cooler months by stocking up on extra nutrients to ensure that you keep your skin and hair hydrated until summer arrives again.

The healthiest skin is properly hydrated skin. By enjoying the heat of the sun and the odd dip in a chlorinated pool, you have probably left your skin parched and thirsty for water. In addition to drinking plenty of H20, you should feed your skin a healthy dose of nutrients by using a cream that actually penetrates your pores, prevents cracks and wrinkles, and is non-greasy enough to wear under your make-up.

I thought the Açai Berry may have been a passing trend, but when Kiehl’s launched an entire line dedicated to the organic berry, I thought I should start taking it more seriously. With their Açai Damage-Correcting Moisturizer, Kiehl’s has found a formula that satisfies the thirst of our skin without being too heavy to layer a little make-up overtop. The formula is 100% natural and will both repair your damaged skin, and protect it from future harm. At around $50, this product is a steal and should be considered an investment in your future beauty.

Now, on to hair, which is often overlooked in terms of protection, prevention and preservation during the warmer months. I have recently learned to avoid stripping my hair of its own oils by sticking with products that are natural and restorative. On a recent trip to the cottage, I tried Burt’s Bees Hair Repair Shea & Grapefruit Deep Conditioner after a long day of swimming off the dock and drying in the sun. I couldn’t get a comb through my bee’s nest before my shower, but after the Burt’s Bees treatment, my hair was baby soft and super shiny. Being perfectly honest with their customers, Burt’s Bees admits that this product is only 98.5% natural, but with only a 2 minute time investment, a $10 monetary investment and the results the product brought to my hair, I’m very willing to forgive the 1.5% discrepancy.
